Reflection on Solo Performance

Link → Solo Performance

On Wednesday we had our solo performances for Unit 26, in terms of what I believe went well, I am happy with some of the moments of my acting through song in which I was able to bring across the characters emotions at the moment through my facial expressions and body movements, and overall I think my vocals went well from what I heard reflecting on the video.

In terms of improvement I do feel that unfortunately I was able to tell through watching the video that my nerves may have gotten the better of me for this performance and at moments I feel that my stage presence needed improvement as I can seem slightly uncomfortable at times, unfortunately this also meant that at times i seem unsure on the lyrics which I know I was comfortable in singing in my performances beforehand of this song.

Although I feel that my performance for the mock may have been slightly stronger in areas such as my confidence in singing the lyrics and my stage presence, overall I feel I did my best as I had to deal with the way I was feeling on the day with my nerves, and I will be using this performance as a moment to reflect and learn from to therefore improve my future performances as I began to understand how to handle my nerves when it comes to performing solo.

Since my mock performance I have been continuing to practise the solo as often as possible and as well as this practising on my areas that I need to develop such as my breath control, using vocal exercises which I have found through YouTube to do this. I feel that using vocal exercises has helped me to prepare my voice for singing and through this I have learned the real importance of warming up our voices.

In terms of my targets which were breath control, and stage presence I feel that both these areas have improved from where I first started in my rehearsals for my solo in regards to my mock and final performance, especially in terms of my breath control in which I feel that I have become more capable of singing longer and higher notes without feeling out of breath after, and in terms of my stage presence I feel this has also improved but I know that it still needs further development.

Reflecting on the two videos and comparing them I believe that there is areas I have improved since the mock such as my vocals sounding stronger and I also noticed that I was more aware of what movements I was going to do when I was standing behind the sofa, however there is also areas in which I know didn't improve as much as I would have wanted such as stage presence and my confidence in the lyrics which I have reflected on.
